
Asad Khattak

Professor Asad Khattak received his master’s and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University in 1988 and 1991, respectively. He is currently the Beaman Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee (UT) and serves as (1) Coordinator for the Transportation Group (6 faculty members) in the department; (2) Principal Investigator for UT in the National University Transportation Center partnership led by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; (3) Coordinator and lead researcher for “Big Data for Safety Monitoring, Assessment, and Improvement,” a multi-year Southeastern Transportation Center UTC project sponsored by the US Department of Transportation; and (4) Co-Director of the Initiative for Sustainable Mobility.
Khattak has 25 years of research and teaching experience in the transportation field. His research expertise relates to various types of innovations related to intelligent transportation systems, transportation safety, and sustainable transportation. Additionally, he has authored/co-authored 172 articles and reports and he has successfully obtained 66 sponsored research and educational projects as a principal or co-investigator.
